'Carbon Talks Dongdaemun' Multi-family Housing Division Launches Project to Create Low-Carbon Village Communities
Expecting Spread of Voluntary Carbon Neutrality Culture through Green Markets and Resident Education
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced that various projects proposed and implemented by residents are being promoted to create a low-carbon village community.
In April, Dongdaemun-gu launched the carbon-neutral practice community "Carbon Talks Dongdaemun." This community, aimed at creating stories to overcome the climate crisis by the hands of residents, consists of members from 10 divisions including ▲traditional markets ▲sewing companies ▲religious organizations ▲educational institutions ▲apartment complexes.
Among the 10 divisions, the apartment complex division aims to discover excellent carbon-neutral practice activities and spread them to all apartment complexes. The Dongdaemun-gu Apartment Residents' Representatives Association and five apartment complexes are participating. Since May, they have been developing detailed carbon-neutral practice project plans tailored to the conditions of each apartment complex and carrying out various projects that residents can participate in.
The projects include ▲"Happy Lights Out," where households turn off their lights on the 22nd of every month to save energy and reduce greenhouse gases ▲"Carbon Neutral Green Market," where unused secondhand goods are sold or exchanged at home ▲"Paper Pack Recycling Project," which conducts education to promote paper pack compensation and recycling ▲and "Carbon Neutral Resident Education," aimed at raising awareness of greenhouse gas reduction practices in daily life.
A district official stated, "Through this project, we expect to raise awareness of carbon-neutral practices and create a space for sharing and communication among residents," adding, "In addition to the apartment complex division, the other nine divisions are also discovering various projects to reduce carbon emissions and carrying out practical activities."
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "The various activities of Carbon Talks Dongdaemun are important steps toward realizing a carbon-neutral city by 2050 and will become a leading example of green energy transformation created together with residents," and added, "We will continue to make every effort to spread the culture of carbon-neutral practice and save energy."
