A man in his 30s was arrested by the police for kicking a passing motorbike rider without any reason in Gangnam, Seoul.

On the 21st, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked and are investigating a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of assault. Mr. A is accused of kicking a motorbike rider without cause on a street in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, at around 10:48 PM on the 12th.

CCTV footage near the scene, released by Channel A, shows Mr. A approaching and threatening the motorbike rider passing through an alley. Suddenly, Mr. A kicked the motorbike rider, and even after the rider fell and was pinned under the motorbike, Mr. A continued to threaten him. A witness to the incident said, "I kept hearing cries for help, so I went out and saw the motorbike had fallen over," adding, "The motorbike rider’s leg was caught under the motorbike, and he kept begging for help."

Mr. A was intoxicated at the time of the incident and fled after the assault, but the police, who responded to the report, tracked his movements via CCTV and were able to arrest him within about 30 minutes. It is known that Mr. A was hiding under a car in a parking lot about 200 meters from the scene of the incident.

Assaulting a car driver is subject to aggravated punishment, but since the victim’s motorbike engine displacement did not meet the 125cc standard recognized for cars, Mr. A is expected to avoid aggravated punishment.
