Meritz Securities is restructuring from a sole CEO system under Jang Won-jae to a dual CEO system with Jang Won-jae and Kim Jong-min serving as co-CEOs. Kim Jong-min, an expert in corporate finance who demonstrated his capabilities at Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance and served as Vice President of the Group Operations Division, has been appointed as the CEO of the securities subsidiary. This move is seen as an effort to strengthen the investment banking (IB) division amid the tightening real estate project financing (PF) market, which has increased the difficulty of corporate finance operations.
On the 22nd at 3 p.m., Meritz Securities held a board meeting and newly appointed Kim Jong-min, Vice President of Meritz Financial Group and Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance, as the CEO responsible for corporate finance and management at Meritz Securities. The new CEO Kim will oversee IB and management, while the existing CEO Jang Won-jae will be in charge of S&T (Sales & Trading) and retail.
Born in 1972, CEO Kim is a corporate finance expert who has successfully executed investments in various fields such as domestic real estate project financing (PF), overseas alternative investments, and corporate loans since 2014, when he served as head of asset management at Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance. As Chief Investment Officer (CIO), he achieved high asset management returns. Since November last year, he has concurrently served as Vice President of the Group Operations Division at Meritz Financial Group, overseeing the group’s overall fund management. CEO Kim plans to focus not only on investment management at Meritz Securities but also on discovering future growth businesses and efficiently allocating capital.
Born in 1967, CEO Jang Won-jae has strengths in core financial tasks such as financial engineering, asset management, product planning, and risk management, and plans to concentrate on S&T, risk management, and retail. Since 2021, CEO Jang has served as head of the S&T division, acting as the 'control tower' for managing stocks, bonds, and derivatives. Even during the ongoing interest rate hike period, he has led stable profits through proactive liquidity securing and risk management.
Meritz Securities stated, “The two co-CEOs have contributed to the rapid growth of Meritz Financial with their top-tier expertise in the financial investment industry,” adding, “We will swiftly execute the Meritz DNA, characterized by change and innovation, to achieve a second leap forward.”
