Suspect Found to Be a Teenager... Indecent Exposure Charges Under Review
A young man was reported to have driven a motorcycle recklessly while wearing only underwear, and the police are currently investigating the matter.
On the 22nd, Sacheon Police Station announced that around 6:20 a.m. on the 17th, a man drove a motorcycle for about 20 minutes along with three companions on a national highway in Sanam-myeon, Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam Province, while wearing only underwear.
According to a vehicle black box video capturing Mr. A, who was driving the motorcycle at the time, he can be seen riding the motorcycle without wearing a shirt, dressed only in underwear. Mr. A and his companions engaged in disruptive behavior such as cutting between cars and zigzag driving, and also shook their bodies while on the motorcycle, causing discomfort to onlookers. Moreover, they were not wearing helmets.
After receiving a report, the police obtained closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area and confirmed the license plate. It was revealed that Mr. A, who drove the motorcycle in underwear, is a teenager. The police plan to summon Mr. A soon to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident on charges including violation of the prohibition of joint dangerous acts.
A police official stated, "For now, only Mr. A is subject to investigation, and no decision has been made regarding the investigation of the companions who rode the motorcycle together," adding, "Since he was dressed only in underwear, we are also reviewing whether charges such as public indecency can be applied."

Meanwhile, incidents causing controversy due to riding motorcycles in embarrassing attire have occurred in the past. Last year, a woman who rode a motorcycle wearing a bikini in downtown areas such as Gangnam, Hongdae, and Jamsil in Seoul was booked by the police on charges of excessive exposure. It is reported that during the police investigation, they stated they rode the motorcycle for magazine promotion purposes.
The crime of excessive exposure applies when a person publicly exposes major parts of their body in a public place, causing embarrassment or discomfort to others. Violators may face a fine of up to 100,000 won, detention, or a penalty.
