On the 22nd, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced that Mr. Lim Young-su (72) donated his left kidney and both eyes to three recipients through brain-dead organ donation at Korea University Guro Hospital on the 24th of last month. In addition to organs, Mr. Lim also helped over 100 patients through 'human tissue donation,' donating corneas, bones, skin, ligaments, and blood vessels.

Earlier, on the morning of the 7th of last month, Mr. Lim was hit by a motorcycle that ran a red light while he was exercising at a crosswalk. He was immediately transported to the hospital and received active treatment from medical staff but eventually fell into a brain-dead state. Mr. Lim had worked for a long time at a university hospital during his lifetime and, feeling compassion for the suffering of the sick, registered as a donor in 2014. He often expressed his wish to do something good by saving other lives at the end of his own life, so his family respected his will and decided to proceed with the donation.

Born as the eldest son among five brothers and one sister, Mr. Lim was known to be calm and quiet but warm-hearted, taking good care of his family and those around him. He is known to have worked as a staff member at Ewha Womans University Dongdaemun Hospital, which is now closed, before retiring. After retirement, he enjoyed walking and hiking and was active as a church elder, leading efforts to help neighbors in need through donations and other activities.

Mr. Lim’s son, Jaebeom, said, "My father was a family-oriented and caring man, and because of him, our whole family was happy. Please don’t worry about the family left behind, and live happily in heaven. I will always strive to follow my father’s example and become a son he can be proud of. I love and respect you," he said in his final farewell.
