Gunsan City to Change Operation of Some City Bus Routes Starting August

Expectations for 'Improved Transportation Convenience' in Newly Developed and Traffic Blind Spots

Pilot Operation of Separated Main and Branch Routes for Haengbok Call Bus Service Areas

Gunsan City, Jeonbuk Province, will change the routes of some city bus lines starting in August.

According to the city on the 22nd, the main points of this route change include the resumption of normal operation for some routes that were partially reduced, providing transportation convenience to newly developed housing sites, and adjusting the operation sections of the Happy Call Bus demand-responsive transport.

Six routes, including the Okseo Munhwa Village direction (No. 2) and Okgu Osanchon Village direction (No. 13), which were partially reduced due to the financial difficulties of city bus operators during the COVID-19 period, will resume normal operation.

The existing terminus at Gunsan Station has been temporarily changed to the outdoor parking lot of Geumgang Future Experience Center (formerly, Migratory Bird Observatory). The city plans to do its best to ensure the traffic safety of citizens traveling near the new station area and passengers using Gunsan Station.

Some routes (No. 61, 88, 89) to the new station area and the D-Ocean City housing development district will be rerouted. Going forward, the city plans to expand transportation convenience for nearby residents and secure punctuality by adjusting timetables reflecting the urban 3050 policy.

Some overlapping sections of demand-responsive (DRT) Happy Call Bus and city buses operating in areas such as Impi-myeon, Seosu-myeon, and Daeya-myeon will be consolidated. This section will be piloted under a branch and trunk system.

The city has completed consultations with city bus operators on major changes. It will actively promote route change information through citywide road variable message signs (VMS), the official website, and city newsletters. Eup, myeon, and dong community centers will also distribute notices and timetables to minimize confusion among citizens due to route changes.

A Gunsan city official said, "We apologize for not being able to fully meet all user demands and for any inconvenience caused to existing users due to some route detours. We will continue monitoring and strive to minimize the issues and inconveniences raised to improve convenience for citizens."
