Jeongeup-si, Jeonbuk Province, will accept additional applications for the 2024 strategic crop direct payment for summer crops until the 31st.
According to the city on the 22nd, the strategic crop direct payment is a project aimed at stabilizing rice supply and demand and securing farmers' income by cultivating strategic crops other than rice in paddy fields.
During this additional application period for the strategic crop direct payment, farmers and agricultural corporations registered under the Agricultural Management Entity Act can apply if they cultivate summer crops such as legumes, glutinous rice, corn, and summer forage crops on paddy fields of 0.1 hectares or more used for strategic crop cultivation.
Farmers who intend to use general rice as whole crop rice (for forage) can also apply.
The payment rates are 1 million KRW per hectare for the newly added item this year, edible corn; 2 million KRW per hectare for legumes and glutinous rice; and 4.3 million KRW per hectare for forage crops.
Additionally, if double cropping is practiced by growing wheat or forage crops in winter followed by legumes or glutinous rice in summer, an additional 1 million KRW per hectare can be received.
The city plans to verify applicants' eligibility, conduct compliance inspections on summer crop cultivation and double cropping, and pay the direct payments to farmers in December.
Farmers wishing to apply should visit the eup, myeon, or dong office of the farmland location (if farmland is dispersed, the location with the largest farmland area) to submit their application forms.
A city official stated, "Since the additional application period is short, we will do our best to promote the project so that no eligible farmers are missed."
