"Performance Known Without Making"… Nexen Tire Develops with AI and VR

Introduction of British Driving Simulator

Nexen Tire is set to become the first in South Korea to introduce equipment that develops tires using virtual reality (VR). By also utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the company plans to predict and evaluate tire performance before creating prototypes, thereby enhancing development efficiency.

On the 22nd, Nexen Tire announced that earlier this month it decided to introduce the VR-based tire development equipment called the 'High Dynamic Driving Simulator' and signed a partnership with the British manufacturer Ansible Motion.

The driving simulator is equipment that creates a virtual tire mathematically representing tire performance and presents it to the driver in an environment similar to evaluating it on an actual vehicle. Within a limited space, drivers can experience lane changes, cornering, and various road surfaces as if driving in real conditions. This equipment allows for predicting and evaluating tire performance.

Through this, Nexen Tire plans to predict and optimize the performance required for original equipment (OE) tires in advance, strengthening its market competitiveness. By applying VR technology to the tire development process, the company explains that it can more precisely predict performance and drastically reduce the time and cost involved in prototype production and real-vehicle evaluation.

Additionally, Nexen Tire plans to further enhance development efficiency by utilizing the AI-based tire performance prediction system introduced in 2022. Beyond existing AI technology that only produces answers based on given test values, the company is also developing an XAI-based design proposal system that can understand and analyze the process of deriving results.
