Introduction of Key Policies Developed Through 'Umunhyundap'
Open Communication on Policy Directions for the Second Half of the Year
Oh Young-joo, Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, has directly heard 287 suggestions through 107 on-site communications over 200 days since her inauguration. Minister Oh expressed her commitment to continue listening more closely to voices from the field and to strive for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to respond to on-site issues.
On the 22nd, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that Minister Oh revisited companies she had visited during her first on-site activities since taking office to review the achievements and shortcomings of the 200-day 'Wumunhyeondap (Our problems have answers in the field)' initiative together with policy customers met on-site. Wumunhyeondap is an on-site communication policy where, in response to suggestions made during the minister’s field visits, the responsible department head directly revisits the site to provide answers focusing on the status of handling and policy direction.
Oh Young-joo, Minister of SMEs and Startups, is sharing her thoughts at the '2024 First Half Review Wise Questions and Honest Answers Meeting' held on the 22nd at T-Order in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
Minister Oh said, “To ensure that companies truly feel our policies, I have carried out Wumunhyeondap for 200 days with the conviction that the 2% not captured by paper documents exists in the field,” and “These efforts have gained momentum, resulting in SME exports in the first half of this year increasing by 2.5 billion USD to 47.7 billion USD compared to the same period last year, despite the continuation of the three highs and geopolitical risks. Venture investment performance also increased by 400 billion KRW as of the end of May compared to the same period last year, demonstrating visible achievements amid difficult domestic and international conditions.”
On this day as well, Minister Oh listened to policy suggestions including on-site visit feedback and expectations for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in the second half of the year from eight companies participating in Wumunhyeondap. The CEO of youth startup company B suggested, “For ventures and startups to overcome growth limitations, globalization through active government support is necessary.”
In response, Minister Oh Young-joo said, “Globalization of ventures and startups is a very important factor in securing growth engines and strengthening competitiveness,” and added, “We will provide full support beyond the existing support system limited to borders and exports, through initiatives such as the ‘Globalization Support One-Team Council’ that resolves globalization difficulties and provides information on local market entry.”
Minister Oh said, “The vivid feedback reaffirmed the importance of ‘Wumunhyeondap,’ which means answers lie in the field,” and added, “In the second half of the year, we will continue to directly visit more sites and focus on ‘Hyeonmunjungdap’ to solve companies’ difficulties, striving to make the Ministry of SMEs and Startups more responsive.”
