Survey Conducted at 26 Out of 63 Child Protection Zones in the Second Half of the Year
Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, will conduct a survey on the current status of 26 child protection zones in the second half of 2024, and plans to strengthen commuting safety by inspecting all protection zones starting next year.
This initiative aims to systematically manage child protection zones by comprehensively investigating their current status within the city. A budget of 87 million KRW will be allocated for this project, which will be carried out by the Korea Road Traffic Authority under a commissioned service.
Recently, the city has implemented projects to improve traffic safety in child protection zones, such as installing unmanned traffic enforcement cameras, yellow traffic signals, protective fences, traffic safety signs, and raised crosswalks.
Through this commissioned service, Yangsan City will investigate the status of safety signs, road markings, traffic signals, facility and traffic accident records, pedestrian signal times, and road types within child protection zones. The findings will be used to enhance pedestrian safety for children. Starting next year, the city will conduct annual surveys not only on the status of facilities in all protection zones but also on traffic volume, compliance with facility regulations, problem diagnosis, and the development of improvement plans. This will allow for a more precise understanding of the current situation and continuous improvement of a safe walking environment for children in Yangsan City.
A Yangsan City official emphasized, "We will continue to strengthen traffic safety facilities within child protection zones and do our utmost to create a walking environment where not only children but all pedestrians can walk with peace of mind."
