15 Years of Peach Farming in Yeongcheon
The North Gyeongsang Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea held its regular party member convention at EXCO in Buk-gu, Daegu on the 21st, where Lee Youngsoo (50), head of the Yeongcheon-Cheongdo regional committee, was elected as the next provincial chairperson.
In this election for the North Gyeongsang Provincial Chapter chairperson, five candidates ran: candidate No.1 Lee Youngsoo (current Yeongcheon-Cheongdo regional committee head), candidate No.2 Kim Wihan (former acting chairperson of the provincial chapter), candidate No.3 Yang Jaeyoung (current Gyeongsan city council member), candidate No.4 Lee Junghoon (former director of planning and coordination for the provincial chapter), and candidate No.5 Jung Yongchae (former vice chairperson of the provincial chapter).
The provincial election management committee conducted online and ARS voting for three days from the 18th to the 20th, and selected the winner using a preferential voting system reflecting 20% of national delegates and 80% of rights-holding party members.
At the reorganization convention, candidate No.1 Lee Youngsoo received 52.15% of the rights-holding party member votes and 54.38% of the delegate votes, winning with a final vote rate of 52.6% and being elected as the next North Gyeongsang Provincial Chapter chairperson of the Democratic Party of Korea.
Newly elected chairperson Lee Youngsoo stated, "The North Gyeongsang Democratic Party, which has endured only through hard work and dedication until now, will now move forward with hope and expectation, shifting from the periphery to the center. Let us open Season 2 of the North Gyeongsang Democratic Party together."
Lee Youngsoo was born in Yeongcheon in 1974, graduated from Seoul National University’s College of Agriculture, and has been cultivating peaches in his hometown since 2008. He served three terms as a village chief from Seoul National University, was the policy director of the Korean Peasants League, and was recruited as a talent by the Democratic Party just before the 20th presidential election. He ran for North Gyeongsang Provincial Council in the 8th local elections and for the 22nd National Assembly, and is currently serving as the central party spokesperson.
Meanwhile, starting with Jeju and Incheon on the 20th, the Democratic Party of Korea will hold nationwide joint campaign rallies in the following order: Gangwon and Daegu-Gyeongbuk on the 21st, Ulsan, Busan, and Gyeongnam on the 27th, Chungnam and Chungbuk on the 28th, Jeonbuk on the 3rd of next month, Gwangju and Jeonnam on the 4th, Gyeonggi on the 10th, Daejeon and Sejong on the 11th, and Seoul on the 17th. Afterward, the party will elect its next leadership, including the party leader and top committee members, at the national party member convention to be held at KSPO DOME in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on August 18.
