The Presidential Office announced on the 21st that "currently, about 10 domestic companies, including low-cost airline ticketing and reservation systems, have been affected" by the Microsoft (MS) cloud service outage.
Jung Hye-jeon, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated during a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the afternoon, "The Presidential Office conducted an urgent inspection of domestic damage related to the global major IT service outage caused by MS cloud service over the weekend."
Spokesperson Jung explained, "For the affected domestic companies, recovery has either been completed or is currently underway," adding, "Compared to overseas, the damage was relatively less severe, which is analyzed to be due to our well-established IT infrastructure, including our security certification system (CSAP) and domestically developed security solutions."
She added, "The government will continue to make every effort to respond thoroughly to IT outages."
The Microsoft (MS) cloud service outage that occurred on the 19th paralyzed major industries and services worldwide, including aviation, telecommunications, broadcasting, finance, and healthcare. This incident is understood to have been caused by a conflict between MS's Windows operating system (OS) and security software updated by the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, which disrupted MS cloud services.
