On the 13th (local time), former President Donald Trump, who held his first campaign rally since the shooting incident, flaunted his friendship with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to foreign media such as Politico, Trump, officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate, emphasized on the 20th (local time) at a rally held for the first time after the shooting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that "I have gotten along well with Chinese President Xi Jinping."
Trump praised President Xi as a "great person" and said, "After hearing about the assassination attempt on me, President Xi wrote a beautiful note." He added, "Most leaders did," but did not specify any names.
Politico evaluated that Trump has maintained a friendly relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping. It particularly pointed out that during Trump's presidency in 2020, although he criticized China for "predatory practices," he also said that he and President Xi were "in love with each other."
Trump boasted of a good relationship while mentioning Chairman Kim, saying, "He has a lot of nuclear weapons. I got along well with him." He also said, "He only wants to buy and make nuclear weapons, but I told him, 'Relax and take it easy, you have enough. You have too many nukes, too many.'" He added, "I told him to relax a bit and go watch a baseball game. I will teach him what baseball is; we can go watch a Yankees game."
He also repeated his claim that if he had been the U.S. leader, President Putin would not have invaded Ukraine in 2022. Trump said both President Xi and Putin are smart and tough, and "they love their countries," adding that regardless of ideology, they want to do well for their countries.
Recently, Trump is also known to have met several times with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb?n. On this day, Trump praised Orb?n as a "very strong leader." Orb?n, who has been called the "Trump of Eastern Europe" for his anti-European moves within Europe, met separately with Trump at Mar-a-Lago Resort, Trump’s private estate in Florida, after the NATO summit ended in Washington DC on the 11th.
Meanwhile, on this day, Trump campaigned together with his new running mate, U.S. Senator JD Vance. He also did not remove the large white bandage he had been wearing on his ear since the shooting incident.
