Presidential Candidate Acceptance Speech Shouted "Tonghap" but
Two Days Later Again "Jjajeungnaneun Biden"
Emphasized Friendship with Hostile Nation Leaders like Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un
Former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate in the United States, once again unleashed his characteristic harsh remarks, calling former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of the Democratic Party a "dog." This came just two days after he delivered a unifying message in his Republican presidential acceptance speech.
According to foreign media on the 21st, Trump said at a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on the 20th (local time) regarding calls within the Democratic Party for President Joe Biden to resign, “Pelosi stood up to Biden like a dog. He is crazy like a tick.” He was referring to reports that former Speaker Pelosi, a longtime political ally of President Biden, suggested replacing Biden as the candidate due to his low chances of winning the election.
In his Republican presidential acceptance speech on the 18th, Trump said, “We must heal the discord and division in our society,” and “I am running to be the president of all Americans, not half.” Trump, who said he toned down the content after a shooting incident, emphasized unity in this speech, which was unlike his usual style, and did not include any harsh words against his opponents.
However, on this day, Trump again used the phrase “annoying Biden” and criticized Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan and one of the alternatives for the Democratic presidential candidate, calling her a “terrible governor.”
Trump also claimed that, like in his acceptance speech, he maintained good relations with hostile country leaders such as Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying again, “I got along well with Kim Jong-un.” He claimed to have told Kim Jong-un, the North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman who is focused solely on making nuclear weapons, “Why don’t you try something else,” “Take a break,” and “Let’s go watch a baseball game together.”
He said he might watch a game with Kim Jong-un, either the New York Yankees or the Michigan professional baseball season opener. Although this implies he might invite Kim to the United States, he did not specify when he made such remarks.
At this rally, he also brought up the shooting incident during a campaign event in Pennsylvania on the 13th, saying, “I hope nothing like that ever happens again. It was so terrible,” and “I was shot for democracy.” This time, he removed the white bandage he had on his right ear from the convention shooting and appeared with a small apricot-colored bandage instead.
