Eight Universities in Busan Collaborate to Fill Learning Gaps During Vacation

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo) is hosting a residential English and math camp on campus for the summer vacation.

The Busan Office of Education will run the university-linked residential "Character English and Math Camp" for three weeks starting from the 22nd, following high satisfaction from students and parents as well as significant improvement in student performance during the last winter break.

This camp will be held at eight universities in Busan for 585 first-year middle school students, aiming to fill the learning gap during the vacation. Students will participate in immersive English and math classes, as well as various character-building programs.

Participants in the camp will start their day with morning physical activities such as flash mobs, music jump rope, and Taekwondo, followed by level-based native English classes and customized math lessons connected to the curriculum.

Additionally, students will explore future career paths through university-specialized programs such as VR/AR experiences, CSI science investigation, and entertainment, utilizing the universities' excellent educational facilities. They will also develop community skills through field trips like yacht experiences and baseball cheering.

The Office of Education plans to expand the program to include sixth-grade elementary students and increase the number of participating universities to more than ten for the upcoming winter vacation.

Ha Yoonsoo, Superintendent of Busan, stated, "We will spare no effort to support 'academic change' through the residential character English and math camp," and added, "We will do our best to help the children of Busan nurture their dreams in the best educational environment."
