Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok Attends the 22nd Seoul Special City Basketball Festival for People with Developmental Disabilities

On the morning of the 20th at 9 a.m., Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the '22nd Seoul Special City Developmental Disabilities Basketball Festival' held at the gymnasium of Seoul National University of Science and Technology.


The '22nd Seoul Special City Developmental Disabilities Basketball Festival,' organized by the Seoul Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled, was established to enhance the confidence of people with developmental disabilities through the sport of basketball, promote a healthy life for people with disabilities, and improve the awareness of disabilities among Seoul citizens.


Especially this year, the event was held for the first time in five years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the mourning for the Itaewon tragedy, and nationwide heavy rain damage. Approximately 400 people attended, including Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly, Kim Sung-hwan, Member of the National Assembly, city and district council members, Heo Gon, President of the Seoul Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled, people with developmental disabilities, volunteers, and Seoul citizens.


On this day, the basketball festival was conducted through group 3-on-3 games, team skill competitions, and free throw individual skill contests. Among the 26 participating teams, Nowon-gu was represented by three teams from Seongmin Welfare Center “SMBT” and the disabled residential facility The Home's 'Throw Shootdori Team,' adding excitement to the games with thrilling matches and enthusiastic cheers.


Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “I hope that the developmental disabilities basketball festival, held again after five years, will serve as an opportunity for many people to increase their understanding and interest in people with disabilities.” He added, “Going forward, the district will create a disability-friendly city, Nowon, where people with and without disabilities live together harmoniously through various programs.”
