Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, emphasized that the issue of livelihood, or 'Meoksanism,' is the most important political ideology.
On the morning of the 20th, Lee spoke at the '1st Regular National Party Members' Convention (Party Convention) Joint Speech Meeting for Party Leader and Supreme Councilor Candidates' held at Jeju Halla Gymnasium, stating, "Among numerous issues, the problem of making a living is the most important," and added, "'Meoksanism' is indeed the most important political ideology."
Lee said, "The foundation of people's livelihood is the economy, and the economy grows by feeding on rationality and fairness in a stable environment," adding, "Therefore, democracy is the economy, and peace is food."
He also stated, "We must restore growth through building a peaceful, orderly, and safe democratic society and foster more opportunities and hope through sustainable growth," and "We must rise again as an economically strong nation, a culturally strong nation, and a model democracy recognized worldwide."
He mentioned the necessity of energy transition through the development of renewable energy industries. Lee said, "The inevitable energy transition must also be turned into a new opportunity for growth and development," and added, "We need to build an AI-based intelligent power grid and energy storage system, that is, an 'energy highway,' so that anyone, anywhere in the country can produce and sell renewable energy."
He emphasized, "Like the highways of the industrialization era that led nationwide industrial development, the energy highway will support the international competitiveness of export companies and bring balanced development through economic growth in regions rich in wind and sunlight," and "Replacing energy imports will strengthen the foundation of the national economy."
