On the 19th (local time), the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that on the 14th, near Taipei in Xinzhu County, Taiwan, a woman scolded her young daughter who had lost her shoes and made her walk barefoot on the hot asphalt road for more than 20 minutes as punishment. At that time, the temperature in the area soared to as high as 34 degrees Celsius. The ground temperature was estimated to be even higher at 54 degrees Celsius.

The 6-year-old daughter complained, "Mom, it's too hot, my feet hurt," but the mother ignored her and urged her to keep walking. When a bystander who filmed the scene asked why the girl was barefoot, the mother replied, "The child lost her shoes and I don't have money to buy new ones." Despite others offering to buy shoes, the mother refused, saying, "Don't worry about it," and continued to make her walk barefoot.

In the video, the girl repeatedly expressed pain, saying, "It's too hot." She was seen hopping to minimize contact between her feet and the road. Whenever she tried to move into the shade, the mother dragged her back into the blazing sun. Nearby citizens criticized, saying, "Isn't this too cruel? This is child abuse," but the woman shouted back, "If you think this is a crime, go call the police quickly."

The police responded to the report, but the mother and daughter had already gone inside their home and did not open the door. The police then informed child protection agencies. Authorities sent social workers to the home to conduct an investigation. The investigation found blisters on the child's feet and confirmed she had suffered burns, so she was taken to a hospital. The police plan to monitor the mother and daughter regularly. It is known that the mother is a single parent raising her 6-year-old daughter alone in a rented apartment without a steady job. The video also caused public outrage locally.
