Lighting Rehearsal Past 3 AM in Gwacheon
Rehearsal Proceeded Despite Nearby Residents' Appeals
Singer Psy faced allegations of disturbing local residents while conducting rehearsals ahead of his performances on the 20th and 21st.
In the early hours of the 19th, a post titled "Is it right to do lighting rehearsals for the Humble Show at this hour?" was uploaded on an online community. It contained complaints about losing sleep due to lighting tests conducted at Seoul Grand Park, where the concert was held late at night. The author wrote, "Is it right to shine such lights from 10 PM? It goes on like this until 1:30 AM," adding, "Even with curtains drawn, the light gets in. They shoot lasers in different colors and use rotating lights like lighthouses. I can't sleep. Please let me sleep, Psy hyung."
Later, an additional post titled "Humble Show lighting rehearsal police report and status at 3 AM" was made. The author claimed that the lighting tests continued even after reporting to the police and filing a complaint with the 120 call center. The lighting tests were still ongoing at 3 AM, with some lights rotating and spreading in all directions. The author lamented, "Just as I was about to fall asleep, the lights flashed again like that. Every time the lights rotate, the light comes in," and added, "What good is reporting to the police? They just change the direction and shine again. This is really too much."
The rehearsal took place from 11 PM on the 18th until around 3 to 4 AM the next day. Psy’s agency, P Nation’s PR firm, stated, "We tried not to use lights that spread too far, but it seems some lights leaked sporadically," and explained, "We believe the focus was mainly directed toward the ground."
This is not the first controversy surrounding the Humble Show. The concert uses 300 tons of water per show, and in 2022, when there was a severe drought serious enough to warrant rain rituals, the show went ahead, drawing heavy criticism. Despite spraying so much water, seven people were transported to hospitals with suspected heat-related illnesses such as exhaustion during the Gwangju performances on the 6th and 7th. At the Wonju Sports Complex concert on the 29th of last month, residents were helplessly exposed to noise due to the late-night continuation of the show. Noise complaints submitted to the city starting two days before the concert reached 100 calls.
