Top 2→3 Construction Companies Joint Supply
Construction Period Extended by 1 Year, Total 7 Years After Groundbreaking
Re-bid Announcement on 31st, Applications Accepted Until 19th Next Month
The government will partially relax the bidding conditions for the site development construction of Gadeokdo New Airport and proceed with a re-bid.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 19th that it will change the bidding condition for the site development construction of Gadeokdo New Airport from "only 2 companies among the top 10 construction companies can form a joint consortium" to "up to 3 companies among the top 10 construction companies allowed" and proceed with the bidding on the 31st.
The Ministry explained that this reflects industry opinions that, considering the project scale and construction difficulty, it is necessary to allow additional participation of top construction companies within the scope that does not restrict competition.
The estimated construction cost for the Gadeokdo New Airport site development project reaches 10.5 trillion KRW, and due to the locational characteristics spanning both sea and land, large-scale marine reclamation is required, making the project highly challenging.

Additionally, the Ministry decided to extend the construction period in the bidding conditions from 6 years to 7 years after commencement. This decision takes into account that various constructions will be carried out simultaneously in a limited space and that a large portion of the work is highly difficult.
However, the Ministry maintains the goal of "opening in December 2029" despite the extended site development construction period.
To achieve this, the Ministry plans to prioritize the construction of essential facilities for opening, such as the eastern reclamation area where major airport facilities will be located, the runway, and the passenger terminal, and ensure that the western site and overall construction are completed within the construction period.
The government will reflect the revised bidding conditions by pre-releasing the bidding guide on the 22nd and accepting pre-qualification applications until the 19th of next month through the bidding announcement on the 31st.
