The meeting was attended by Jeong Myeong-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong, Jeong Gwang-yoon, Director of Hwaseong-Osan Office of Education, and Park Cheol-su, Director of Hwaseong City Research Institute, where the research plan and detailed progress directions were discussed.
The Hwaseong City Research Institute, which is conducting this study, will carry out ▲ analysis of the current status of the region related to attracting a science high school ▲ analysis of the social and economic impact ▲ plans for the establishment and operation of the science high school. The research results will be used to formulate strategies for the new designation of Hwaseong Science High School.
Director Park stated, "We will do our best in the research, including analyzing the local status and reviewing the feasibility of establishment, to prepare measures for attracting Hwaseong Science High School."
This study follows the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education’s announcement in April of a plan to foster talent in science and engineering fields, including the additional establishment of science high schools in the Gyeonggi area. To attract a science high school, the city signed a business agreement last month with the Hwaseong-Osan Office of Education and Hwaseong City Research Institute to promote the establishment of the science high school. The provincial office of education is expected to hold a public contest for the new designation of science high schools at the end of August.
Mayor Jeong said, "Hwaseong City, home to advanced companies and research institutes such as Samsung, Hyundai, and Kia, is the optimal location for a science high school in southern Gyeonggi," adding, "We will do our best to attract Hwaseong Science High School to nurture talent in science, technology, and future industries."
