Jeonnam Police Conduct Traffic Safety Campaign to Establish Pedestrian-Centered Traffic Culture

685 Pedestrian Traffic Accidents Occurred This Year... 31 Deaths

The Jeollanam-do Provincial Police Agency and the Autonomous Police Committee have taken active measures to establish a safe traffic culture for pedestrians.

Park Jeong-bo, Commissioner of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Police Agency, and Jeong Soon-gwan, Chairman of the Autonomous Police Committee, have joined hands with related organizations and security partners to conduct nationwide public awareness campaigns and traffic enforcement activities simultaneously at all police stations.

According to the Jeonnam Police on the 19th, although efforts have been made since last year to promote the obligation to stop temporarily when turning right to prevent pedestrian traffic accidents, 685 pedestrian traffic accidents occurred this year as well, resulting in 31 deaths.

In response, all police stations in the province conducted a nationwide campaign on the 18th at a total of 22 locations, including the intersection near Mokpo City’s General Bus Terminal.

Additionally, to establish a pedestrian-centered traffic culture, large-scale promotions will be carried out using public institution electronic billboards, VMS, and BIS. Moving forward, traffic enforcement officers, local police, undercover officers, mobile units, and special squads will be appropriately deployed to strengthen crackdowns on major violations such as failure to stop temporarily before crosswalks and signal violations.

A representative of the Jeonnam Police Agency urged, “It is necessary for residents to actively participate and pay attention so that a pedestrian-centered traffic culture can be established by complying with traffic laws, such as stopping temporarily and slowing down when passing crosswalks and right-turn intersections, and obeying traffic signals.”
