"Moved in last December but only bitter laughs"
"Announcement tells me to move my car"
As heavy rain pours down across the country, a story has emerged about flooding in the underground parking lot of a newly built apartment in Gyeonggi-do.
On the 18th, an online community 'FM Korea' posted a thread titled "Flooding in the newly moved-in new apartment."
The author, Mr. A, who moved in last December, shared several photos and videos, saying, "I can only laugh bitterly." The released photos showed water pooling heavily on the floor of the apartment's underground parking lot. In some areas, the water was deep enough to completely submerge feet. Especially, water was dripping from the ceiling of the underground parking lot like rain.
Mr. A explained, "I took the photo while going to work, so I had already moved my car, but the announcement has been continuously urging people to move their cars since earlier." He added, "The management office says the drainage pumps are working normally. They said it’s because the rain exceeded the pump’s capacity." He also mentioned, "In some buildings, water is dripping from the stairs," and advised, "Avoid newly built apartments constructed after 2019." When asked about raising public awareness with residents, he responded, "I will definitely do it."
The apartment where Mr. A lives is a large complex with about 1,800 households and was completed in November last year. This means flooding occurred in an apartment less than a year old.
Netizens who read the story reacted with comments such as, "How was it built for water to leak from the parking lot ceiling?" "It must be scary to enter the parking lot," "Flooding seems to happen more in new buildings than old ones," "How can construction be done like that?" and "There should be strict punishment for poor construction."
