A Korean-Japanese man, a former employee of the famous Japanese publishing company Kodansha, who was tried for the murder of his wife in Japan, was sentenced to 11 years in prison again in the retrial.
According to Kyodo News and local public broadcaster NHK on the 18th (local time), the Tokyo High Court upheld the first trial sentence of 11 years in prison in the retrial of Park, a Korean national accused of killing his wife.
The Tokyo High Court found no irrationality in the first trial ruling that Park killed his wife, stating, "The defendant's claims lacked credibility." Earlier, Park was arrested in August 2016 at his home in Tokyo on suspicion of killing his wife.
Park claimed innocence, arguing that his wife had taken her own life, but the first and second trial courts did not accept this.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court of Japan, equivalent to the Korean Supreme Court, in November 2022, ruled that "it is difficult to say that sufficient examination of evidence for homicide was conducted," and sent the case back to the Tokyo High Court.
