Kang Wiwon, Forms 'Innovation Storm Campaign Committee' as Foundation for Realizing a Party Member-Centered Mass Party

Democratic Party Gwangju Metropolitan City Party Chair Candidate Registration Scheduled for the 22nd

Recruiting 100 Joint Election Committee Chairs Including Seniors, Women, and Disabled

"Operating the City Party Serving 110,000 Rights Party Members and 1.4 Million Citizens"

Emphasizing the "365-day open city party" and "innovation in the era of party member sovereignty," Kang Wiwon, the standing representative of the Democratic Party of Korea's National Innovation Council, who has thrown his hat in the ring for the chairmanship of the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City Party, is forming the "Innovation Storm Campaign Committee."

The "Innovation Storm Campaign Committee" aims to realize a party member-centered operation of the Gwangju City Party from the formation of the campaign committee itself, with 100 party members from various sectors and professions?including the elderly, women, university students, youth, disabled persons, laborers, and small business owners?participating as co-campaign chairpersons. Recruitment is open on a first-come, first-served basis starting today.

Kang believes that by gathering 100 ordinary but great citizens and party members as co-campaign chairpersons, they will demonstrate what the era of party member sovereignty truly looks like.

This also reflects his determination to realize a party member-centered mass party through city party operations that serve Gwangju’s 110,000 rights-holding party members and 1.4 million citizens.

It is interpreted as a declaration of intent not just to talk about party member sovereignty in words, but to properly listen to and serve party members starting from the formation of the city party chairman’s campaign committee, in line with the principles Kang Wiwon has consistently expressed.

A representative from Kang Wiwon’s side stated, “The era of party member sovereignty that Kang has always emphasized is an era where decisions and executions are made through the collective intelligence of party members,” adding, “The chairman, who is responsible for city party operations, must listen well to the voices of party members, and to listen well, they must properly serve the party members.”

They also added, “We plan to appoint more co-campaign chairpersons centered on neighbors who have served residents in their workplaces and communities rather than prominent figures,” and “The 100 co-campaign chairpersons will engage in candidate advisory activities for party innovation and political reform, as well as volunteer activities and campaigns to expand support for the candidate.”

The Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju City Party chairman election began with the announcement of candidates at 9 a.m. today. Candidate registration will take place on the 22nd and 23rd. Kang Wiwon is expected to register as a candidate on the 22nd.
