‘Ttubucki’ Trainer Says “Now Aiming for 700 Wins”
Min Jangki, trainer of the 21st stable at Korea Racing Authority's Let's Run Park Busan-Gyeongnam, has achieved his 600th career win.
Trainer Min Jangki (57 years old) reached this milestone on the 14th, when his horse "Kaurain" (Korea, 4 years old) won the 6th race at Busan-Gyeongnam.
On that day, jockey Choi Eunkyung rode "Kaurain," who was trailing at the back of the field but made a sharp surge in the final stretch to secure a come-from-behind victory.
Min, who previously worked as a jockey and trainer in Jeju, left his stable life in 2004 and debuted as a Thoroughbred trainer at Busan-Gyeongnam Race Park.
Since the horses used in Seoul and Busan-Gyeongnam races are Thoroughbreds, which differ from the breeds used in Jeju races, Min had to start learning anew with a fresh mindset. His sweat, effort, and passion led to achievements such as his 100th win in 2010, 300th in 2015, and 500th in 2021. Those around him gave him the nickname "Ttubucki" (meaning "steady walker").
Additionally, Min produced notable horses such as "Success Story," who placed third at the Dubai World Cup Carnival in 2016?the first time in Korean racing history?and "Doraonpogyongseon," the top sprinter in 2018, achieving eight major race wins.
This year, Min's horse "Sethbaekpa" (Korea, 3 years old) won the first and third legs of the Triple Crown series?the KRA Cup (G2) and the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Cup (G2)?and was selected as the best three-year-old horse.
Min stated, "Winning is never easy, whether now or in the past. As time passes, each victory feels even more precious and meaningful," adding, "I will do my best in every race and aim for 700 wins before retirement to repay the fans who have supported me."
