Kim Jinyoung, Lee Sungin, Son Byungchul, and Lee Janghyun Achieve 100 Wins
Korea Racing Authority's Let's Run Park Busan-Gyeongnam (Head: Um Youngseok) held an award ceremony on the 14th for owners who achieved '100 wins'.
The honorees were Kim Jinyoung, Lee Seongin, Son Byeongcheol, and Lee Janghyun.
Just as there are club owners in soccer, there are owners in horse racing. Among the four, Kim Jinyoung was the first to reach 100 wins and is a veteran owner celebrating his 20th year. He owns famous racehorses such as 'Doraonpogyeongseon', who dominated Korean short-distance races in the late 2010s, and 'Captain Yankee', who secured two G2 victories in the 2022 Triple Crown series.
Lee Seongin achieved his 100th win on April 19th in Busan-Gyeongnam Race 2 when 'Diagrith' took first place. He is the owner of 17 racehorses, including 'Graphenlabworld', 'Graphenking', and 'Stormgrith'.
Son Byeongcheol, owner of Korea's first filly Triple Crown winner 'Golden Power', also reached 100 wins in the same month. Son operates a racehorse ranch in Miryang and is well known for his dedication to horse racing, including donations to Korea Racing Livestock High School to foster talent in the horse industry.
On June 9th, Lee Janghyun, who claimed his first major race victory with 'Success Macho' in last year's Owners Cup (G3), also reached the milestone of 100 wins, joining the prestigious list of multiple winners.
At the award ceremony, Kim Jinyoung said, "It is an immense honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in my 20th year as an owner," and added, "I believe this glorious moment was only possible thanks to the trainers, managers, and jockeys who work tirelessly alongside the horses, and I express my deepest gratitude to them."
An owner, who forms a cornerstone of the horse racing industry, is registered with the Korea Racing Authority and is eligible to enter their owned racehorses in races and receive prize money based on race results. In the past, a TV program ranked 'Racehorse Investment' as the second most popular investment, highlighting the public interest in owners and prize earnings.
Owners must pay for the purchase and training of racehorses and bear losses if their horses do not place in races, making it difficult to continue without conviction, belief in horse racing, and affection for their horses.
Therefore, the achievement of 100 wins by these owners is the result of countless challenges, investments, repeated entries, and trial and error?a true testament to their sweat and effort.
LetsRun Park Busan Gyeongnam is holding a reward ceremony to celebrate the trainer who achieved the most wins.
