Plan for Simultaneous Joint Drunk Driving Crackdown at All Police Stations Organized by Dokyung
The Jeollanam-do Provincial Police Agency and the Autonomous Police Committee have launched continuous crackdown activities to prevent fatal accidents caused by drunk driving.
According to the Jeonnam Police on the 18th, this decision was made amid growing social consensus recognizing drunk driving as a serious crime.
Although drunk driving traffic accidents in Jeonnam have been on a decline over the past five years, more than 500 accidents still occur annually. This highlights the need for efforts to raise awareness and vigilance against drunk driving.
In particular, statistical analysis revealed that fatal drunk driving accidents occur most frequently in July. To preemptively curb the atmosphere of drunk driving during the summer vacation season, authorities plan to conduct simultaneous joint drunk driving crackdowns at all police stations from 7 PM to midnight on the 18th.
The Jeonnam Police will deploy a total of 297 officers at maximum capacity, including traffic police, local police, and riot squads, to areas with concerns of drunk driving such as entertainment districts, pubs, public restaurants, tourist spots, and golf courses. They will conduct continuous drunk driving crackdowns day and night, as well as periodic spot checks.
A representative of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency emphasized that "drunk driving threatens not only one's own life but also the lives of others," and urged "active participation from the residents."
