Meeting between Yeo Leadership and Legislation Committee Members at the Corruption Investigation Office
Corruption Investigation Office "Cannot Disclose Specific Schedule"
On the day before the first anniversary of Chaesangbyeong's death in the line of duty (the 19th), the leadership of the People Power Party, including Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho, and members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee visited the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (PCC) to urge a prompt announcement of the investigation results into the Chaesangbyeong case.
Park Joon-tae, the People Power Party floor spokesperson, said in a phone call on the 18th, "The PCC's announcement of the investigation results is too delayed," adding, "Meanwhile, all kinds of investigation-related information are being reported in the media, leading to rampant speculation. This is causing more pain to the bereaved families." He stated that the People Power Party conveyed this message to the PCC. He further emphasized, "As a result, public suspicion is growing, and distrust toward the PCC is increasing," and urged, "We call for the PCC to promptly announce the investigation results."
In response, the PCC reportedly replied that "the investigation is being conducted diligently, but it is not possible to specify when the results will be announced." On the same day, Floor Leader Choo, Policy Committee Chairman Jung Jeom-sik, and members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee visited the PCC together. Floor Leader Choo had also met with PCC Chief Oh Dong-woon on the 14th of last month, requesting, "Please conduct a strict and swift investigation and conclude it before the first anniversary of Chaesangbyeong's death in the line of duty, and thoroughly announce the results to the public."
The People Power Party has maintained the position that "the investigation results from the police and the PCC should come first" regarding the 'Chaesangbyeong special investigation,' and also stated, "If the investigation results do not meet the public's expectations, we will first push for a special investigation." The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency decided on the 8th not to prosecute former Marine Corps 1st Division Commander Lim Seong-geun, who was reported on charges including professional negligence resulting in death in connection with the Chaesangbyeong case.
