Appointment of Small and Medium Venture Secretary at the Launch of Yoon Seok-yeol Government
Previously Held Key Positions at Former Small and Medium Business Administration and Ministry of SMEs and Startups
The government appointed Kim Seong-seop, Secretary for Small and Medium Venture Businesses at the Presidential Office, as the new Vice Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups on the 18th.
Born in 1970, Vice Minister Kim graduated from Daegu Neungin High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Economics. He later earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Graduate School of International Policy at the Korea Development Institute and a Ph.D. in Economics from Illinois State University in the United States.
He entered public service by passing the 39th Administrative Examination and served in key positions at the former Small and Medium Business Administration and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, including Head of the Startup Promotion Division, Head of the Venture Policy Division, Head of the Operations Support Division, Director of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Office of SMEs and Startups, and Regional Enterprise Policy Officer.
In May 2022, with the launch of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, he was appointed as the first Secretary for Small and Medium Venture Businesses at the Presidential Office and served in that role.
The government stated, "Vice Minister Kim has worked at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups since 1996, holding key positions, and served as Secretary for Small and Medium Venture Businesses at the Presidential Office since the start of the current administration. As a Ph.D. in Economics, he is not only well-versed in theory but also a policy expert who has handled practical policies from startup to growth, making him the right person to firmly support the backbone of our economy."
