Briefing on 'Selection of Preferred Negotiation Partner for New Czech Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project' at Government Sejong Cheongsa on the 18th
Hwang Ju-ho, President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, stated on the 18th, "The project we won this time is worth 12 trillion won per unit, totaling 24 trillion won, and I think the additional units coming out in 5 years will be at a similar level."
On the same day, President Hwang made these remarks during a briefing on the selection of the preferred negotiator for the Czech new nuclear power plant construction project held at the Government Sejong Complex.
President Hwang explained, "The contract for the project selected as the preferred negotiator is scheduled to be signed by March next year, with construction starting in 2029 and the first unit completed in 2036," adding, "The Czech side seems to be considering whether to build the second unit at one-year intervals or two-year intervals."
He continued, "After completing these two units, the plan is to consider the remaining two units that will come out 5 years later," and said, "Due to the rapid increase in electricity demand now, this period might be shortened."
Yesterday, the Czech government announced that Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power was selected as the preferred negotiator for the new nuclear power plant construction project. Known as the largest investment project in Czech history, this project involves constructing up to four large nuclear reactors at the Dukovany and Temelin sites in the Czech Republic.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has been officially selected as the preferred negotiator for the construction of two new reactors at Dukovany, securing the status to negotiate exclusively with the ordering company (EDU II) for the construction of Dukovany Units 5 and 6. The total project cost for Dukovany Units 5 and 6, as estimated by the Czech side, is approximately 2,000 billion Czech koruna (about 12 trillion won) per unit, totaling around 24 trillion won. The contract amount will be finalized through future negotiations.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (main contractor) has formed a "Team Korea" with KEPCO Engineering & Construction (design), Doosan Enerbility (main equipment and construction), Daewoo Engineering & Construction (construction), KEPCO Nuclear Fuel (nuclear fuel), and KEPCO KPS (commissioning and maintenance) to provide an integrated supply of the entire nuclear power plant construction services including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and nuclear fuel supply for the 1000 MW-class large nuclear power plant (APR1000). One APR1000 unit can produce about 1.2 times the annual electricity consumption of Prague (5.8 TWh), based on an 80% utilization rate.
