Lee Jae-myung "Opposes Third-Party Recommendation for Special Prosecutor Chae Sang-byeong"... Kim Doo-kwan "Will Consider Flexibly"

CBS Democratic Party Leadership Candidate Debate

Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, opposed the proposal for a third-party recommendation of a special prosecutor in the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act on the 18th. On the other hand, candidates Kim Du-kwan and Kim Ji-soo agreed with the third-party recommendation plan.

On the same day, during the Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate debate held by CBS, Lee responded to the question, "Regarding the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act, which is about to be re-voted in the National Assembly, can the third-party recommendation plan, such as the Korean Bar Association, be considered through bipartisan agreement?"

Lee said, "Currently, the investigation and prosecution are conducted by prosecutors appointed by the president who continuously exercise personnel authority, but isn't the investigation a mess?" and added, "Since the third-party recommendation involves multiple recommendations, the president ultimately appoints the special prosecutor," expressing concerns about fairness. He further stated, "I believe it is just to proceed according to the current special prosecutor law (where the opposition party recommends the prosecutor)."

On the other hand, candidate Kim Du-kwan said, "While it is important to uncover the truth through a special prosecutor, since it is not easy for our party's proposed special prosecutor law to pass, the special prosecutor bill (third-party recommendation) proposed by Han Dong-hoon, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, is also worth considering flexibly."

Regarding whether the impeachment atmosphere against President Yoon Seok-youl has begun, Lee avoided a direct answer. When the moderator asked an 'O·X question,' "Do you think the impeachment train against President Yoon Seok-youl has departed?" Lee answered, "In the middle." When the moderator requested a clear choice again, Lee refused, saying, "That is coercion."

Lee then said, "People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho told reporters to ask me 'O or X' about impeachment support," adding, "The way the question is asked is problematic, but ask why the issue of impeachment is arising among the people. You should ask how to solve that problem. Ultimately, it will be decided according to the will of the people."
