Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is providing 'flood damage prevention supplies' to prevent damage caused by heavy summer rains.

Due to climate change, the period of heavy rainfall is increasing every year. Especially this summer, nocturnal heavy rains are expected, so thorough preparation against flood damage caused by nighttime heavy rains is necessary.

Accordingly, the district is supporting flood prevention supplies in preparation for the heavy rains throughout the summer and actively promoting resident action guidelines such as removing rainwater drain covers.

The flood damage prevention supplies include ▲sandbags ▲water pumps ▲portable flood barriers, which are items that residents can use for emergency measures during heavy rains.

First, the district has placed flood prevention boxes (sandboxes) at 28 flood-prone areas and 15 community service centers within the district. Any resident can freely use sandbags after checking the location of nearby sandboxes on the Gwangjin-gu Office website.

If sandbags in the flood prevention boxes are insufficient, residents can apply at the community service center or the Gwangjin-gu Office Water Management Division.

Additionally, water pumps and portable flood barriers are provided for buildings at risk of flooding, such as underground houses. The water pump functions to quickly remove water outside, and the portable flood barrier is installed at building entrances or in front of windows to block rainwater in advance. Both items can be rented at the resident’s local community service center. However, if there are many applications, priority is given to residents in previously flooded areas, the elderly, and others based on priority.

Furthermore, Gwangjin-gu is systematically implementing flood disaster prevention measures through various projects such as ▲operating a 24-hour flood and typhoon disaster safety countermeasures headquarters ▲installing flood prevention facilities in semi-basement and underground houses ▲cleaning rainwater drains ▲flood disaster insurance.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “When heavy rain is forecasted, please prepare flood prevention supplies in advance and remove rainwater drain covers around your home to prepare for flood damage. Gwangjin-gu will do its best to implement flood prevention measures so that households at risk of flooding can safely get through this summer.”
