Geumcheon-gu Extends 'Resident Safety Insurance' Contract Period Until Year-End

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will extend the "Resident Safety Insurance," which has been provided to all residents since last year, until the end of this year.

From July last year to the end of June this year, insurance payments totaling 235 million KRW were made for 696 injury cases, helping to reduce the medical expenses burden for residents. The insurance premium paid by the district office was only 54 million KRW, resulting in a very high payout ratio of 435%.

The district has extended the original insurance contract period, which was from July last year to the end of June this year, until the end of December this year while maintaining the main coverage limits.

The Resident Safety Insurance is a system where the insurance company contracted by the district office pays insurance benefits for medical and funeral expenses to residents who suffer injury accidents in daily life. It does not overlap with the Seoul Citizen Safety Insurance coverage items and can be claimed in conjunction with personal indemnity insurance.

Residents registered in Geumcheon-gu, registered foreigners, and overseas Koreans with domicile reports are automatically enrolled and can receive benefits without any separate procedures.

Coverage applies when medical expenses such as emergency costs, treatment fees, surgery fees, hospitalization fees, or death occur due to injury accidents that happen within Korea. The coverage limits are 500,000 KRW per person for medical expenses and 10 million KRW per person for funeral expenses.

Payments are restricted in cases supported by traffic accidents, diseases, old age, infectious diseases, industrial accidents, public official accidents, or liability for public facilities. However, injuries caused by personal mobility devices (shared, rental, or privately owned) are covered.

Insurance claims can be submitted within 3 years from the date of the accident for treatments received within 1 year from the accident date by attaching the required documents to the Resident Safety Insurance reception office.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope the Resident Safety Insurance provides some comfort and help to residents who suffer unexpected accidents in daily life," and added, "We will do our best to continuously operate the safety insurance to create a safe Geumcheon-gu where residents can live with peace of mind."
