Ryugyeonggi Jungnang-gu Mayor Urgent On-Site Inspection of Heavy Rainfall

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) immediately launched an emergency on-site inspection at 8:45 a.m. on the 17th in response to the heavy rain warning issued for the Seoul area.

Visiting the Myeonmok Rainwater Pump Station, Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu received a report on the overall flood situation in the district and reviewed the status of the heavy rain response. He also checked the normal operation and management status of the facilities, urging thorough facility management. The Myeonmok Rainwater Pump Station operates 10 motor pumps alternately to discharge rainwater into streams or rivers during the rainy season and heavy downpours.

The district operates a Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and maintains a 24-hour emergency response system. Access to Jungnangcheon and Mukdongcheon streams is blocked, and the district is actively working with the police and fire departments to prevent casualties. Additionally, real-time heavy rain updates and response guidelines during heavy rain are actively provided through official SNS and text messages.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “As continuous heavy rain is expected during the rainy season, we will conduct thorough inspections of various facilities and vulnerable areas,” adding, “We will ensure perfect flood preparedness so that there is no negligence in the safety of our residents.”

The district is making various efforts to minimize flood and wind damage during the upcoming summer season. It has completed maintenance after a comprehensive inspection of flood-prone areas and checked flood control facilities such as rainwater pump stations, sluice gates, and water pumps in preparation for heavy rain.

In particular, the district operates a ‘Companion Partner’ program to assist disaster-vulnerable households such as semi-basement homes, supporting their prompt evacuation in case of flooding. The Companion Partners are a community collaboration group consisting of nearby residents, neighborhood leaders, and public officials. These nearby partners quickly relay weather information to disaster-vulnerable households in connection with flood warning systems and respond on-site from the flood forecast stage to ensure safety.

Furthermore, to enable rapid initial response during heavy rain, road water level gauges have been installed on major roads, and manhole fall prevention facilities are continuously being expanded in areas with high pedestrian traffic to prevent casualties.
