HD Hyundai Launches 'Hamjeong Technology Research Institute'
"Focusing on Global Naval Ship Market"
HD Hyundai has launched the 'Ship Technology Research Institute.'
On the 17th, HD Hyundai announced that it held the opening ceremony of the Ship Technology Research Institute at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center in Pangyo. About 50 officials attended the event, including Jeong Ki-seon, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai; Kim Seong-jun, CEO of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering; Joo Won-ho, Head of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Special Ship Business; and Jang Gwang-pil, Director of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Future Technology Research Institute.
In his congratulatory speech, Vice Chairman Jeong Ki-seon said, "The paradigm of the special ship market is undergoing significant changes centered on smart ships incorporating advanced digital technology," adding, "Let us make the Ship Technology Research Institute a cradle of world-class ship technology and contribute to South Korea's leap as one of the top four global defense powers."

The Ship Technology Research Institute is an expanded and reorganized organization of the Ship Technology Center of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Special Ship Business Division. It is scheduled to operate as a subordinate organization under the Future Technology Research Institute within HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering. The Future Technology Research Institute serves as the control tower organization overseeing HD Hyundai's research and development (R&D) and provides applied technologies necessary for the group's major business sectors.
HD Hyundai plans to focus on the global ship market by developing models for the navy's next-generation ships and export ships. Additionally, it aims to secure a competitive edge in the global ship market by pursuing three core ship business strategies: ship electrification, unmanned ship development, and strengthening export ship competitiveness. The company also plans to continuously expand its pool of outstanding talent in the ship sector.
