A Man in His 50s Carrying a Blunt Weapon After Arguing with Son
"I Tried to Hit My Son While Drunk," He Testified
A man in his 50s was arrested by the police after he tried to hit his son at home following an argument outside but accidentally assaulted his son's friend with a blunt weapon, Yonhap News reported on the 17th. The Jeonbuk Jeonju Wansan Police Station is investigating Mr. A, in his 50s, on charges of special assault.
Mr. A is accused of hitting a man in his 20s, Mr. B, with a blunt weapon at his home in Junghwasan-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju City, around 2 a.m. that day. According to the police investigation, after arguing with his son at the restaurant he operated, Mr. A took a blunt weapon and went home.
He swung the weapon at a man sleeping on the bed, thinking it was his son. However, the person who was actually hit was Mr. B, his son's friend, who had come over to visit and was sleeping at the time. Mr. B, who was struck by the blunt weapon, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that "he intended to hit his son while under the influence of alcohol."
The police said, "The victim must have been very startled, as if struck 'out of the blue'." They added, "When the disturbance occurred in the early morning, someone nearby reported it, but the identity of the reporter has not yet been confirmed." They also stated, "After further investigation, we will consider whether to apply for an arrest warrant for Mr. A."
