Resolution to Hold Joint Meeting of National Assembly Members from 13 Cities and Counties
The 9th Mayors and County Governors Cooperation Meeting for the Construction Project of the Central Region East-West Transversal Railroad was held on the 17th at the Clubhouse of the Edufarm Tourist Complex in Jeungpyeong County.
The 9th Conference of Mayors and County Governors for the Construction of the Central Region East-West Trans-Korea Railway was held on the 17th at the Edufarm Tourism Complex Clubhouse in Jeungpyeong County, North Chungcheong Province.
The meeting, attended by the mayors and county governors of 13 cities and counties including Park Sangdon, Mayor of Cheonan, included the final report on the preliminary feasibility study for the Central Region East-West Trans-Korea Railway and discussions on future implementation plans.
The final report on the preliminary feasibility study was presented by Jeong Seongbong, a professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, who is responsible for the project. He reported on the cost analysis and technical review based on demand forecasts, the necessity of the Central Region East-West Trans-Korea Railway, and future policy directions.
In addition, the council discussed meetings with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the submission of official proposals to include all sections of the project in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan, and agreed to promote joint meetings with the National Assembly members representing the 13 cities and counties.
The council also unanimously reappointed Park Sangdon, Mayor of Cheonan, as the council's representative, whose term had expired. The term is two years, until June 2026.
Park Sangdon, the council representative, stated, "The Central Region East-West Trans-Korea Railway construction project will serve as a growth engine for economic development in the central region and will be at the center of balanced national development."
He added, "We will work together with the 13 cities and counties and their National Assembly members to ensure the successful implementation of the project."
Meanwhile, the Central Region East-West Trans-Korea Railway is a large-scale national project connecting Seosan, Cheonan, Yeongju, Bonghwa, and Uljin, with a total length of 330 km and a project cost of 7.3 trillion won. It is expected to improve accessibility between the eastern and western regions, contribute to balanced national development, and revitalize the central region's economy.
