Busan Urban Corporation Selects Six Winning Entries in 'Hazard and Risk Identification Contest for Workers'

Promoting Safety Culture Among Construction Site Workers

Focusing Capabilities on 'Preventing Construction Accidents and Achieving Zero Major Disasters'

Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) held a "Worker Hazard Identification Contest" from April to July at public housing construction sites currently being developed by the corporation.

This contest was part of the "Worker-Centered Customized Safety Culture Campaign," which BMC has been actively promoting to achieve "Prevention of Construction Accidents and ZERO Serious Accidents."

On-site workers directly identified hazards at their workplaces and even provided suggestions for improvements, thereby contributing to the spread of a safety culture.

Over the past four months, BMC received a total of 48 hazard cases from five construction sites, including Eco Delta City 18, 19, and 20BL public housing and the Happy Housing in front of City Hall. After the first and second rounds of evaluation, six winning entries were selected.

The grand prize was awarded to the case of "Risk of falling due to unsecured sump pit opening cover," selected by a panel of judges consisting of private contractors, construction project management teams, and BMC staff.

BMC plans to disseminate and educate about the identified hazards at each construction site. Regular inspections will be conducted, and immediate improvements will be made if any issues are found.

The grand prize winner stated, "Through this contest, I was able to re-examine the hazards at our workplace and it served as an opportunity to raise awareness about near-miss and other safety accidents. I will continue to work towards creating a safe working environment and spreading safety awareness."

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, emphasized, "We expect this contest to help establish a safety culture where workers themselves develop safety awareness. BMC will focus its efforts on preventing construction accidents and achieving ZERO serious accidents through various safety culture activities, such as the 'Bandi Safety Cafe,' which is scheduled to be launched in the second half of the year."
