Dongryeol Lee, Gwangyang Steelworks Director, Encourages On-site Employees During Heatwave

Thanking Employees Doing Their Best for Safe Work During Heatwave

Boosting Morale with Various Snack Packages as Encouragement Gifts

Lee Dong-ryeol, the head of POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks, will engage in encouragement and communication with employees who are sweating it out at the steelworks site as industrial soldiers even in the midsummer heat from the 15th to the 26th of this month.

Despite the intense heat, Lee Dong-ryeol, head of Gwangyang Steelworks, has taken the lead in listening to and encouraging on-site employees working hard at the forefront of major repair operations to ensure safe operations and equipment robustness, starting with the No. 1 hot rolling mill on the 15th, over a total of four visits.

Expressing his gratitude to each employee on duty, Lee Dong-ryeol also delivered encouragement packages consisting of ice cream, salt bread, soy milk, and vitamin C to help cool down the heat and satisfy hungry stomachs.

An employee who received the encouragement package said, “I would like to express my gratitude to Lee Dong-ryeol, head of Gwangyang Steelworks, for coming to encourage us who are working hard on the important task of major repairs even in the hot summer,” adding, “We will do our best to complete the major repair work successfully without a single accident, prioritizing safety as the most important value.”

As an early heatwave and a prolonged hot season are expected this year, watermelon punch and misutgaru (grain powder) drinks, which help relieve thirst and provide nutrition, will be provided to all steelworks employees in two rounds to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Additionally, POSCO’s Marketing Headquarters plans to visit the Gwangyang Steelworks major repair site directly on the 18th with a food truck to encourage the employees.

Lee Dong-ryeol, head of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “I sincerely want to thank all employees who are sweating it out at the forefront of the site with a sense of ownership even in the hot summer,” adding, “Since safe operations are essential for stable production, I hope everyone will prioritize safety as the most important value while carrying out the major repair work.”

Meanwhile, since June, Gwangyang Steelworks has been actively leading efforts to create a safe working environment for all executives and employees by establishing work rules based on the three major guidelines for preventing heat-related illnesses and sending weekly weather special reports.
