Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) announced on the 12th that it will carry out a project to replace emergency generators in aging public rental housing.

This project was planned to strengthen the disaster safety management system for rental apartment complexes that are over 30 years old.

Last year, BMC replaced the emergency generator at the permanent rental apartment in Hakjang 1 District, and in September this year, construction will begin at three more rental apartment complexes: Dongbaek, Dongsam 1, and Gaegum 2.

Emergency generators are essential facilities that supply electricity to key equipment such as fire safety systems and evacuation facilities in apartments during disasters like power outages, fires, or earthquakes, ensuring the safety and convenience of residents.

In particular, BMC will simultaneously implement enhanced seismic design and exhaust reduction systems during the equipment replacement process.

For permanent rental housing units without seismic design, vibration isolation pads will be installed first, and additional vibration isolation springs and seismic stoppers will be added so that the generator can operate stably in the event of disasters such as earthquakes.

Additionally, BMC plans to use eco-friendly power generation equipment equipped with exhaust reduction features to minimize pollutant emissions.

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, stated, "Since power outages during emergencies can cause significant losses to residents’ lives and property, we will continuously strive to strengthen disaster safety for residents by timely replacing aging emergency generators and reinforcing seismic safety."
