Lufthansa, Japan Airlines and 4 Other Airlines Collaborate
Short-Haul from 17,600 KRW to Long-Haul 29,700 KRW
SK Telecom announced on the 17th that it will launch 'T In-flight Wi-Fi,' the first service in the domestic mobile carrier industry that allows the use of Wi-Fi on airplanes.
'T In-flight Wi-Fi' is a product that enables customers to subscribe to in-flight Wi-Fi services through SKT's T Roaming website and airport roaming centers without going through airlines.
Existing in-flight Wi-Fi services were provided by customers checking available flights with Wi-Fi on each airline's website and making payments accordingly. In some cases, subscription was only possible after boarding, depending on the airline.
SKT collaborated with SK Telink, global airlines, and global satellite operators to allow customers to check available flights for in-flight Wi-Fi and subscribe to the service in one place.
The service will be provided in cooperation with six airlines including Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Air Canada, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways, with plans to expand partner airlines in the future.
The fees for T In-flight Wi-Fi are divided into three categories based on flight distance: long-haul at 29,700 KRW, medium-haul at 19,800 KRW, and short-haul at 17,600 KRW per flight.
They have also prepared a discount promotion linked to their roaming service baro plan. Customers who subscribe to the baro plan by December 31 can receive discounts on 'T In-flight Wi-Fi' fees depending on their selected data capacity: 20% off for 3GB and 6GB, 50% off for 12GB, and 100% off (free) for 24GB.
