The 4.7km section of the 'Gonjiamcheon Local Stream Maintenance Project,' connecting Yeolmi-ri (Dongnamgyo) and Gonjiam-ri (Yegegyo) in Gonjiam-eup, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, has been completed.
Gyeonggi-do announced on the 17th that the Gonjiamcheon local stream maintenance project, which began in November 2020 with a total budget of 26.7 billion KRW to expand the river width from the existing 20-25m to 40-45m and secure the cross-sectional flow area, was completed on the 12th. This project aimed to enhance the flood prevention capacity of Gonjiamcheon along the 4.7km section.
Gyeonggi-do created an eco-friendly stream environment by applying environmental ecological blocks and natural stone stacking for river protection and greening purposes, allowing plants to grow naturally.
Additionally, embankment roads and surrounding roads were improved to facilitate vehicle access for nearby factories and residents.
Jung Seon-woo, Director of the Construction Bureau of Gyeonggi-do, stated, "We will focus on maintaining areas expected to suffer flood damage and do our best to prevent significant damage from heavy rains during the rainy season."
