After Arboretum Site Designation Application This Year, Detailed Design Next Year and Construction Starting in 2026
Daejeon City announced that the Bomunsan Arboretum development project passed the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Central Investment Review on the 16th.
This project involves investing over 110 billion KRW to establish exhibition forests, propagation and cultivation facilities, a lawn plaza, a forest gallery, a plant library, and other educational and convenience facilities on a 1.45 million square meter site in Hodong, Jung-gu, on the eastern side of Bomunsan.
The city selected the name "Bomunsan Arboretum" through a public contest, choosing a name that is easy for everyone to pronounce and well reflects the characteristics of the region.
Through ongoing public feedback, the city plans to enhance urban competitiveness by collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and researching plant resources based on Bomunsan's excellent ecological environment, while also expanding much-needed leisure spaces for citizens in the old downtown area.
This year, the city will apply to the Korea Forest Service to designate the site as a future arboretum, and after completing the development plan and detailed design in 2025, will begin actual construction in 2026, aiming for completion by the end of 2027.
Park Dohyun, Director of Greenery and Agricultural Life at Daejeon City, said, "With the project passing the central investment review, we have laid the foundation for preserving Bomunsan's outstanding forest resources and creating another premium green space. We will successfully carry out the Bomunsan Arboretum development project."
