The KOSPI closed slightly higher, supported by net buying from both foreigners and institutions.
On the 16th, the KOSPI closed at 2,866.09, up 5.17 points (0.18%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, foreigners and institutions net bought 179.7 billion KRW and 105.3 billion KRW respectively. In contrast, individuals net sold 286.8 billion KRW.
By sector, transportation equipment, machinery, securities, and distribution rose more than 1%. Meanwhile, steel and metals fell 2.06%, and chemicals, textiles and apparel, and services declined more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 87,700 KRW, up 1,000 KRW (1.15%) from the previous trading day. Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Samsung C&T rose more than 2%, while SK Hynix and Shinhan Financial Group increased more than 1%.
On the other hand, Samsung SDI and LG Chem fell more than 4%, and LG Energy Solution and POSCO Holdings dropped more than 3%. KB Financial also declined 1.87%.
On the day, in the KOSPI market, 359 stocks rose without hitting the upper limit, 500 stocks fell without hitting the lower limit, and 74 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ closed at 839.61, down 13.27 points (1.56%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, foreigners and institutions net sold 91.5 billion KRW and 70.7 billion KRW respectively. Conversely, individuals net bought 173.9 billion KRW.
By sector, other manufacturing and metals rose slightly. Meanwhile, finance fell 3.49%, chemicals and general electric and electronics dropped more than 2%, and food, beverage and tobacco, machinery equipment, publishing and media, and pharmaceuticals declined more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM closed at 183,200 KRW, down 11,200 KRW (5.76%) from the previous trading day. EcoPro fell 5.44%, and Enchem declined 4.44%. Additionally, HLB dropped 3.06%, and Ligachem Bio and Hugel fell more than 2%. In contrast, Ligno Industrial rose 1.25%.
On the day in the KOSDAQ, 518 stocks rose, including 4 stocks such as Shinshin Pharmaceutical and Iwon Comtech that hit the upper limit. Meanwhile, 1,042 stocks fell, including Sonid which hit the lower limit, and 97 stocks remained unchanged.
