Daily Mentor Na Kyung-won: "Good System, Cooperation for Nationwide Expansion"
On June 16, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon promised to expand 'Seoul Run,' Seoul City's educational ladder policy. Mayor Oh stated that he is working on ways to expand the program so that more people can benefit and is currently consulting with the government to this end.
On the same day, Mayor Oh attended the 'Seoul Run Mentoring Group Meeting' held at the Jung-gu Seoul Youth Center and said, "The government must recognize and support this as a kind of welfare policy for the target group to be expanded."

Seoul Run is one of Mayor Oh Se-hoon's 'Walking with the Vulnerable' policies launched in August 2021. It is Seoul City's flagship educational welfare project that provides online educational content and one-on-one mentoring services to vulnerable groups who find it difficult to afford private education due to socio-economic reasons, thereby reducing private education expenses and alleviating educational disparities. Especially from this year, an artificial intelligence (AI) learning diagnosis program has been introduced to support self-directed learning, and through programs such as 'Experiential Mentoring,' 'Special Emotional Support Mentors,' and '4050 Senior Mentors,' it also helps with character development and study habits.
At the event, five people including university student mentors and mentees participating in the 'Seoul Run Mentoring Program,' parents, and Na Kyung-won, a current candidate for the People Power Party leadership election, attended as a 'one-day mentor.' Also present were Kang Ji-yoon (21) from the Department of Social Studies Education at Gyeongin National University of Education and Hong Won-gi (21) from the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Seoul, who entered university using Seoul Run and are now active as 'virtuous cycle mentors,' as well as Seoul National University Department of Child and Family Studies student Jeong Chae-so (23) and Yeongnim Middle School student Kim Ya-el (16), who are mentor and mentee, respectively.
Before the event started, Mayor Oh introduced Representative Na by saying, "The party convention is currently underway. Whoever becomes the leader, wouldn't it be good if many people benefit from good policies?" and added, "I invited candidate Na here today with the hope that the benefits of the (Seoul Run) policy will spread."
He also announced the expansion of Seoul Run's benefits. Mayor Oh said, "Seoul Run, which started to help students who want to study but face difficulties for various reasons, is now expanding beyond classes to various programs that motivate academic achievement, including mentoring, play mentoring, and English camps. The target groups are also being broadened to include North Korean defectors, children of national veterans, and youth preparing for independence," adding, "Recently, we have received many inquiries from local governments, and we will strive to ensure that more students can gain learning opportunities through Seoul Run."
Representative Na also responded, "One of the issues to be solved to overcome the low birthrate problem is 'education expenses,' and Seoul Run seems to play a very significant role in reducing the burden of education expenses," and said, "We will cooperate to ensure that such a good policy can be expanded nationwide in the future."
