Venture Capitalist-Turned Vice Presidential Candidate Vance Receives Successive Welcomes from Silicon Valley IT Industry
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, expressed his welcome regarding the selection of Senator J.D. Vance as former President Donald Trump's running mate.
On the 15th (local time), Musk CEO tagged Vice Presidential candidate Vance on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "Congratulations. A great decision by (former President) Trump." He then listed the names of former President Trump and Vice Presidential candidate Vance side by side, describing it as "Resounds with victory."
Having long opposed President Joe Biden, Musk CEO publicly expressed support for former President Trump via X on the 13th after the assassination attempt on Trump, stating, "The last time America had such a strong candidate was Theodore Roosevelt." The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources, reported that Musk CEO plans to donate about $45 million (approximately 63 billion KRW) monthly to a super PAC (political fundraising organization) supporting former President Trump.
At the Republican National Convention held that day, former President Trump, officially confirmed as the presidential candidate, selected hardline conservative Senator Vance from the 'Rust Belt' as his vice presidential candidate. Born in Ohio in 1984, he is the youngest vice presidential candidate since 1952. Overcoming a difficult family background, he rose to stardom with his memoir "Hillbilly Elegy," which chronicles his growth from lawyer and venture capitalist to federal senator.
Vance's unique background as a venture capitalist is also credited with helping to gather support in California, a longtime Democratic stronghold. Silicon Valley investor David Sacks, known to be close to Musk CEO, called Senator Vance "an American patriot" and emphasized, "This is exactly the person I want to be beside Trump." Delian Asparouhous, partner at venture capital Founders Fund, welcomed the choice, saying, "We are a country with a former tech venture capitalist (VC) in the White House."
Meanwhile, in an interview with Fox News on the same day, Vice Presidential candidate Vance reaffirmed former President Trump's stance on 'ending the war quickly,' responding to questions about the Russia-Ukraine war by saying, "We will help both sides negotiate to quickly end the war so that the U.S. can focus on China, the greatest threat to America." Former President Trump had previously declared during a presidential debate, "Before January 20, as president-elect, I will end the war between Putin and Zelensky."
