KIAT, Free Technology Transfer in 'Communication-Smart Home-Healthcare'

On the 16th, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) held a technology transfer briefing session at EL Tower in Yangjae, Seoul, targeting technologies in the communication, smart home, and healthcare sectors that Samsung Electronics decided to transfer free of charge, as well as technologies registered in the Technology Bank (NTB).

Technology sharing, promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KIAT, is a project that transfers unused technologies owned by large corporations, public institutions, and universities to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies free of charge. This year, a total of 28 companies and institutions, including POSCO Group, Samsung Electronics, energy public enterprises, and public research institutes, are participating. The main fields include communication (124 cases), smart home and healthcare (107 cases), totaling 231 cases.

Starting this year, KIAT will accept applications for pre-consultation demand on technologies of interest to help SMEs that have received technology transfers achieve rapid results in subsequent commercialization, and will hold consultation sessions accordingly.

Min Byung-joo, President of KIAT, said, "Technology sharing is a project that enhances the utility and utilization of idle technology resources," adding, "In the future, we plan to actively provide various follow-up support necessary for rapid commercialization, such as technology guidance and intellectual property (IP) consultations, targeting SMEs that have received technology transfers."
