Ahead of 2030 Goal by 2 Years
"Supporting Job Settlement Across Busan Port by Attracting Hinterland Complexes and Easing Regulations"
Busan Port Authority (BPA) is set to create a cumulative total of 30,000 jobs by 2028.
On the 17th, BPA announced that it has reset its mid- to long-term job creation target while establishing the '2024 Busan Port Job Creation Plan.'
A BPA official explained, "This decision was made considering the urgent need to expand jobs in the region, the conditions of Busan Port, and the economic situation. Originally, BPA had set a mid- to long-term management goal to create 30,000 cumulative jobs by 2030, but this target has been moved up by one year."
To achieve the goal ahead of schedule, BPA plans to minimize job vacancies in the public sector by managing the gap between authorized and actual personnel through occasional recruitment and hiring youth interns amounting to about 10% of the regular workforce.
Specifically, in the private sector, BPA will create stable jobs by directly and indirectly supporting the growth of private companies through attracting and opening new hinterland logistics complexes, deregulation, and port construction and maintenance. Additionally, BPA will continue projects for mutual growth such as building smart factories, port-related specialized businesses, and vacation support programs, and will collaborate with private, public, and government sectors to discover excellent companies in startups, small and venture businesses, and social enterprises in the region to help stabilize jobs and create more employment opportunities.
Last year, BPA created 4,521 jobs in both the public and private sectors, achieving a cumulative total of 15,000 jobs created since 2020. Among these, BPA hired 25 youth interns last year to provide opportunities to strengthen employment capabilities and made various efforts to support youth employment, including producing and distributing employment guidebooks. Alongside this, BPA also created 4,486 private sector jobs last year through attracting excellent companies to the hinterland logistics complexes, new port construction, and opening new piers.
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, "Busan Port is a large-scale industrial site where numerous industries come together and develop collaboratively. We will implement various support policies so that diverse jobs can be created and settled throughout Busan Port, and together we will build the future of Busan Port."
