Seongbuk-gu, Seoul is receiving high praise from not only children and adolescents but also parents for its vacation programs that actively utilize tangible and intangible infrastructure resources such as knowledge, educational and research capabilities, and facilities of local universities. Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro), home to eight universities, has collaborated with five local universities to offer various programs where children and adolescents on summer vacation can study and enjoy themselves.
These programs actively utilize the tangible and intangible infrastructure resources such as knowledge, educational and research capabilities, and facilities of each university, receiving high praise not only from children and adolescents but also from their parents.
Korea University is conducting the ‘Seongbuk Future School Life Sciences’ and the ‘Native English Camp with Korea University.’ The Seongbuk Future School Life Sciences program is currently underway for 40 high school students in the district until the 27th of this month. The Native English Camp is held for 60 local elementary school students from grades 3 to 6, running from the 29th of this month to August 2nd.
Kookmin University has prepared various programs including ‘Seongbuk Future School Automotive Engineering,’ ‘Software Studies,’ ‘Information Security Cryptography Mathematics,’ ‘Learning Camp with Kookmin University,’ and ‘Film Production Mentoring Using AI.’ The three programs for high school students?Automotive Engineering, Software Studies, and Information Security Cryptography Mathematics?are especially popular and are being conducted for 20 local high school students until the 27th of this month. The Learning Camp is held for 30 local elementary school students in grades 5 and 6 and 30 parents.
Seokyeong University leverages its strengths in K-Culture and K-Beauty to offer ‘K-POP Mentoring with Seokyeong University,’ ‘Musical English Camp,’ and ‘Make-up Artist Challenge.’ The K-POP Mentoring program is for 60 local middle and high school students and provides mentoring by Seokyeong University mentors in areas from basic to advanced K-POP-based dance, vocals, and music production. It is one of the most competitive programs.
Sungshin Women’s University has prepared a ‘Nursing Career Experience’ for 40 middle and high school students. Hansung University offers ‘Science and Math Stories Outside the Classroom with Hansung University’ and ‘eSports Pro Gamer Mentoring with Hansung University and Nongshim eSports Pro Team.’
In addition to these, Seongbuk-gu is home to Dongduk Women’s University, Dongbang Graduate School, Korea National University of Arts, and others. Each university utilizes its infrastructure to provide various programs such as lectures, performances, and exhibitions for Seongbuk residents. The district has also started the ‘1000 Won Breakfast’ project, the first among basic local governments, to promote nutrition and health for university students in the area, actively cooperating with the universities.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro stated, “Seongbuk-gu is a university city where about 100,000 university members including students and faculty from eight universities are active. We actively share the universities’ tangible and intangible infrastructure resources such as knowledge, educational and research capabilities, and facilities with the local community.” He added, “We are working closely with universities to help Seongbuk’s future generations grow into creative and convergent talents required by the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.”
